The Acute Medical Unit (Marjory Warren Ward) is an essential part of the acute medicines that provides initial management of adult patients with acute medical conditions. It’s a 37-bedded ward with 11 beds for cardiac monitoring, 10 isolation rooms and the rest for acute admission (of patients who do not require cardiac monitors). We see patients with a wide variety of complaints such as, respiratory, cardiology, frailty, infectious Diseases etc. Patients are usually sent to us from the emergency department, our sister ward (AAU), ITU and other wards in the hospital. Our role is to provide a timely and effective evaluation and to initiate patient’s treatments.

  • To provide high quality, effective, individualised care to all patients by assessing care needs and developing, implementing and evaluating them without supervision
  • To assist the Senior Sister or Charge Nurse in leading the nursing team and deputise in their absence
  • Monitor standards of nursing care and take appropriate action to maintain and improve them
  • To respond to patients, relatives and carers concerns as they arise and take remedial action as required
  • To assist in achieving A&E waiting time targets ensuring timely review/transfer/discharge of patients.
