Research Nurse

The postholder will be working on the SARS-CoV-2 Immunity & Reinfection EvaluatioN (SIREN) study, focused on increasing understanding of whether individuals who have recovered from COVID-19 are protected from future SARS-CoV-2 infection. Since its inception, the SIREN study has answered, and will continue to answer, the most important questions about COVID-19 infection, reinfection, and antibodies. This is a high-profile study with multiple deliverables and collaborations.

• You will work without direct supervision and are responsible for managing Trusts and participants enrolled in a major surveillance and research project.
• You will support retention and participation in accordance with surveillance and study protocols in secondary care settings.

Clinical

• Undertake recruitment to research projects, ensuring compliance with appropriate guidelines and requirements, for example the NHS R&D Framework, GDPR.
• Communicate scientific information, both written and verbal, regarding surveillance projects and research studies to study volunteers, GPs, practice nurses, specialist hospital nurses and medical consultants where appropriate. Liaise with trusts (research nurses, laboratories, Principal Investigators) to optimise retention to SIREN and ensure quality sample processing.
• Reviews, comments and contributes to development of research protocols, SOPs, policies and participant information.
• To assist with drafting papers for publication or reports for submission to relevant review bodies, regulatory agencies or other relevant parties.

Management and Leadership

• Undertake line management for project support colleagues including contributing to training, conducting appraisals etc in line with UK HSA policies.
• Manage your own workload which may cover a number of surveillance and research workstreams.
• Support communication with sites
• Be proactive, suggest and take forward solutions to identified retention and operations issues, in cooperation with the wider SIREN team.
