Your Opportunity:

The Acute Services Units within the Adult Inpatient Program at The Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury provide comprehensive assessment, treatment and stabilization services to individuals 18-64 years of age who have a severe and persistent mental illness and/or are experiencing an acute mental health crisis and/or addiction illness. You will report to the Unit Manager or designate Manager. The Registered Psychiatric Nurse/ Registered Nurse – Laurier will provide direct nursing care following the full scope of practice as set out by the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta and/or College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses Alberta and the Health Professions Act. The Registered Psychiatric Nurse/ Registered Nurse will have a strong foundation in mental health and addictions. You will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team, with due consideration provided for family and appropriate others. You will ensure the effective operation of the unit when assuming designated responsibilities and contribute to the learning experience of students, staff and patients. As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability. You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care, while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:Proven ability to work positively, effectively, and cooperatively within an interdisciplinary team. Strong initiative, and ability to work independently with limited supervision. Demonstrated leadership, team building, critical thinking and problem-solving skills with an outstanding customer-focused attitude. Knowledge of mental health assessments, treatment methodologies and intervention strategies. Competent assessment of behavioral risks and interventions in ensuring the safety of patient, self and others. Ability to manage a wide variety of clinical situations within a fast-paced environment with varying levels of acuity. Knowledge of and competent de-escalation skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Physically and emotionally carry out the duties of the position.
