POSITION: Registered Nurse

UNIT: Operating Room

STATUS: Regular Part Time (A)

SALARY: $34.24 – $49.02

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The new Surgical Suite consists of four (4) operating rooms with one (1) endoscopy suite, performing a wide variety of General, Vascular, Orthopedic, Urology, Bladder, ENT, Ophthalmology, OB/GYN and Maxillofacial surgical procedures.

 

The Registered Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to patients by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care in the Operating Room. Maintaining a high degree of professionalism, the successful candidate would act as an advocate, coordinator and liaison for the patient by identifying needs and setting priorities in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to provide care during the intra-operatives and/or immediate post-operative periods.

 

HOURS:

Must be available for 7.5 and 11.25-hour day, evening, night, weekend and statutory holiday tours, and other tours assigned by the hospital.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Registered Nurse, currently registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Graduate of a BSc in Nursing or education and experience that allows the RN to practice at full scope
  • Minimum of two (2) years of recent Medical Surgery experience required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of perioperative patient care
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certificate
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member
  • Computer skills (Cerner, Electronic Patient Record ie. Surginet, Outlook, PowerChart)
  • Excellent Attendance Record in accordance with STEGH’s Attendance at Work Policy

 

CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • Maintain competencies to ensure they are relevant and up to date on a continuing basis
  • Maintain and continuously enhance competencies through continuous learning in order to base practice on knowledge and skills relevant to client health needs
  • Reflect on competencies in relation to changes occurring in the surrounding society and health environment in order to acquire and develop new competencies on an ongoing basis
  • Responsibility for educational support for competent nursing practice is shared among individual nurses, professional nursing organizations, employers, education institutions and governments as they make decisions that affect the common goal of quality care
