Nurse Practitioner Opportunities

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a self-directed advanced practice nurse (APN) prepared at the graduate or doctorate level. In some clinical areas, the NP may be designated a Most Responsible Provider (MRP) still working within a collaborative practice model.

The NP demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge base in a practice area exhibiting a high degree of clinical competence in caring for select patient populations with acute and chronic specialized healthcare needs. The NP scope of practice incorporates the skills and knowledge from the disciplines of nursing and medicine. The NP provides patient care using advanced assessment skills and a sound knowledge of clinical therapeutics and provides direct and indirect patient care services to support patient care, promote professional education, and advance knowledge through research and scholarly activities. All duties and responsibilities of the NP conform to legislative, professional practice standards and hospital guidelines and when required are in accordance with a written agreement (medical directives, MRP practice agreements) with physician members of the medical staff at London Health Sciences Centre.

Rate of pay: $53.58 per hour – $65.28 per hour

Qualifications

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario: Extended Class
  • Successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner certificate in one of the following specialty areas: Adult, Primary Care, Paediatric
  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP(C)
  • Current member of the Nurse Practitioner’s Association of Ontario (NPAO) preferred
  • Minimum 2 years recent, related acute care experience
  • Recent experience collaborating with external agencies and community partners preferred
  • Advanced presentation skills including the application of adult learning principles, change theory and systems theory in a clinical environment
  • Proficiency with computer programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet, Power Chart and GroupWise
  • Ability to recognize own feelings, express them fully and constructively manage own feelings in challenging and emotionally charged situations
  • Ability to express ideas clearly, confidently and directly and work through conflicts and differences in a respectful way
  • Ability to understand the feelings, concerns and needs of other people, demonstrate care and interest towards them and establish and maintain productive relationships
  • Ability to stay effective and resilient when dealing with adverse circumstances and multiple demands
  • Ability to demonstrate an optimistic disposition toward new experiences and change in general
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency with Automated Clinical Systems
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC’s Mission, Vision and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Immunization Requirements:

  • Successful candidates will be required to complete a health review which includes providing vaccination records or proof of immunity against Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella (Chicken Pox) prior to starting at LHSC.
  • In addition, candidates will need to provide documentation of Tuberculosis Skin testing and a completed COVID vaccine series (two vaccines) prior to starting at LHSC.
