SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A $32 million dollar expansion is in the process at Onondaga Community College’s School of Health.
The college is preparing more nurses and other health care workers as Central New York hospitals continue to combat staff shortages.
The multi-million-dollar expansion will reconfigure and renovate the health school and Ferrante Hall in order to double degree certifications and short-term training programs to help the health care staffing crisis.
The enrollment at the health school is expected to increase by nearly 50 percent from the expansion.
OCC’s president Dr. Warren Hilton said, “As this region’s partner in education for success, we take pride in understanding and responding to our community’s workforce needs. The need for healthcare workers throughout the system, from direct patient care to those who keep track of patient’s records, is significant. Thanks to the support Onondaga Community College and our School of Health is receiving at all levels of government, we will continue to educate and train students for rewarding careers in a wide variety of health-related professions.”
