Full Job Description

The Trust is committed to ensure that the safeguarding structure and processes are robust and effective. An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic nurse to join our integrated safeguarding team as a specialist adult safeguarding nurse. The team is made up of a range of professionals working to safeguard adults and children including the acute liaison nurses for learning disability, the paediatric liaison nurses as well as Independent Domestic and Sexual Violence Advisors (IDSVA’s).

The specialist nurse will work closely with the specialist nurse based at the Barnet hospital site and will be supported by the lead nurse for safeguarding adults and the wider team. The specialist nurse will provide advice and support for staff across the whole safeguarding spectrum and drive forward service improvement throughout the Trust. The appointed individual will work with the safeguarding training lead in addition to the wider team to contribute to the development and delivery of the new and exciting safeguarding training strategy.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who has some experience of safeguarding adults and who wants to develop their skills and competencies in safeguarding within a busy acute Trust.

The post holder will be based at the Royal Free hospital Hampstead site.

The post holder will support the Trust Lead for Safeguarding Adults & Mental Capacity Act by,

  • Providing professional and clinical leadership to the multi-disciplinary teams across the Trust and external partners, ensuring that processes to safeguard adults at risk, and the application of the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) are delivered to a high standard.
  • Providing specialist advice to support and safeguard people at risk and high risk groups of patients ( e.g. dementia, learning disabilities ), as per the Mental Capacity Act and the Care Act 2014.
  • To be an active member of the integrated safeguarding team, to contribute to the delivery of the safeguarding workplan, undertake audit and service development
  • Strategically manage safeguarding adults’ issues across the organisation to ensure that the Trust complies with current legislation and local safeguarding governance arrangements.
  • Collaborate with multi agencies partners and carers to support integrated patient centred pathways, make safeguarding personal and takes account of what matters for the individual at risk
  • Assist in developing and implementing a strategy and syllabus for multi-professional training in safeguarding adults, the MCA, Domestic Abuse, PREVENT & DoLS.
  • Be responsible for the collection and reporting of safeguarding activity data for the Trust safeguarding governance purpose and the external regulators
  • Support the principles of the relevant Safeguarding Adults Partnership Board
