Elective orthopaedics is situated in Kent and Canterbury Hospital in the beautiful historic city of Canterbury. Come and complete our team, become involved in a new and challenging Orthopaedic Centre with a dynamic, motivated and innovative team of orthopaedic nurses, delivering Post –operative Care to Elective Orthopaedic Joint Replacement patients. It is a rewarding area in which to work and offers many opportunities for development.

With its redevelopment and expansion program, the orthopaedics Centre is bringing all joint replacements and spinal surgery to our door.

Ideally the candidate should have nursing experience however, anyone looking for a challenging and developing role are very welcome to apply. The successful candidate will support the Ward Manager, ward managers assistant and the ward team in the day to day running of the ward and will help to provide excellent standards of care to our patient group.

A busy elective ward of 24 beds; with a wide range of patients following an Enhanced Recovery Pathway. We believe in developing our team with in-house training and simulation and support for further professional development., to promote the rapid recovery process, encouraging patient’s independence and individuality.

  • Undertake nursing assessments competently
  • Act as the identified nurse for post-operative and critically ill patients by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating their care
  • Supervise more junior members of staff in giving and maintaining high standards of care
  • Demonstrate the ability to take charge of the ward in the absence of a more senior member of staff
  • Demonstrate leadership in progression of the patient pathway.
  • Act as the patients’ advocate
  • Liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary team
  • Participate in taking an active role in planning effective, timely, and safe discharges
  • Be clinically competent in all areas of advanced practice relevant to the post
  • Work to eliminate all avoidable infection by acting as a role model in infection prevention and control prevention to all staff, visitors and patients
  • Work in accordance with the Health Act (2006) and comply with national and

local infection control policies and procedures and any other related infection prevention policies or procedures

  • Take direct responsibility for ensuring cleaning standards are maintained throughout the shift when in charge
