Band 5 Nurse in Neuroscience Centre (Neurosurgery, Neurology, Stroke) and Major Trauma – Royal Sussex County Hospital – BRIGHTON

(part time/ full time/ flexible hours/rotational)

All the Neurosciences departments will be moving in at the beginning of 2023, we are also excited to commission the new Helideck to ensure faster treatment for our trauma patients. Due to these developments, we are recruiting to expand our fast growing services.

Neurosciences and Major Trauma centres consists of Neurosurgery and Spinal unit, Major Trauma Unit, Hyperacute and Acute Stroke unit, Neurology and planned investigation Unit, Neuro outpatients Department, 2 Neuro theatres and 1 neuroradiology suite.

Our patient group is very diverse, with complex cases, as well as routine and emergency neurosurgery/neurology/Trauma and Stroke.

All of our services are supported by multi-disciplinary teams of specialist allied health professionals including Physiotherapists, Occupational therapists, Speech and languages and Neuro and trauma psychologists. Our services include our highly skilled nurse specialists, these include Nurses in the following areas; Head of Nursing, Matrons, Trauma practitioners, Head Injury, Skull based, Neuro-vascular, Stoke, Neuro-oncology, clinical educators, Parkinson, Multiple-Sclerosis, Epilepsy, Headache, Cognitive Long Covid and Advances Clinical Practitioners.

The Neurosciences and Major Trauma centres provide excellent, tertiary care to all patients in Sussex and across all the South East of England. We are excited to be part of phase 1 of the 3T’s (Trauma, Teaching and Tertiary) redevelopment project which will provide a modern, clinical-renowned and world leading teaching hospital.

All of our specialist nurses started as Band 5’s in Neurosciences and Trauma and have developed and progressed into specialist posts (You can see more about our exciting areas with fantastic photos of our teams in one of the documents linked to this advert).

The service prides itself in quality nursing and achieving timely treatment for its patients. The service prides itself in good staff retention and encourages staff development through education. We are a friendly and supportive team looking for someone with the same qualities. Previous neuro or trauma experience is desirable but not essential. We offer training and have competencies in place to enable the successful applicants to develop which will be supported by our clinical educators and practice educator. We also have in house courses in Neurosciences and Trauma.

Training opportunities are provided within the Trust for people keen to undertake further studies at degree and master’s level, as well as other opportunities where relevant, to attend national and global conferences. We actively encourage and support personal and professional development and strive to provide excellent career progression into all our cardiac areas and nurse specialist roles.

Nurses will gain a wide range of experience in monitored units and as well as nursing highly acute patients, including those with stokes, tracheostomy, unstable spinal injury, head injuries, trauma orthopaedic injuries.
