POSITION SUMMARY:

The Nursing Student Success Facilitator will serve as the primary resource to undergraduate students including but not limited to Freshman Nursing Pathway (FNR) students in addressing barriers to academic performance. This position works proactively and reactively as needed with students, faculty, and additional support resources to provide a coordinated and adequately supported experience for students. The position will facilitate recruitment, retention, persistence, and achievement of goals for the College of Nursing through coordinated and collaborative efforts with faculty and the Director for Student Academic Success. The position must be able to travel to other USF campuses as necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinate and facilitate with the Director of Student Success to conduct gap analysis for the purpose of creating a success plan, monitoring student progress, and documenting coaching activities and progress.
Able to connect and engage the student in early identification, intervention, remediation, and other evidenced based coaching strategies for improved retention, progression, academic success, and NCLEX success.
Monitor student academic performance and maintains regular communication with students.
Work with the Director of Student Success to refer the student to other academic resources as deemed appropriate. Refer the student to appropriate academic and support resources and collaborates with the Director of Student Success, faculty, academic advisor, etc. to monitor and accelerate the academic progress of the student. Ensure faculty are advised of the availability of various academic resources at the college and university levels such as tutoring and service.
Maintains communication and focuses on promoting and coordinating activities that support the nursing student in their preparation for the NCLEX exam.

Work proactively and reactively as needed with the student, faculty, and other support resources to provide a coordinated and adequately supported experience for the student across all USF campuses.
Assist the student in developing study skills/tools, behaviors, and study habits/ strategies for college-level coursework that contributes to academic success. These may include academic goal setting, learning strategies, time management, organization, and test-taking strategies. Evaluate data to gauge the effectiveness of initiatives and strategies as necessary.
Facilitate recruitment, retention, persistence, and achievement goals for the College of Nursing through coordinated and collaborative efforts with faculty and the Director of Student Academic Success.
Maintain a thorough understanding of the college and university academic programs, policies, and procedures including institutional policies, and federal, and state regulations. Complies with applicable federal and state.
Monitor, review, and analyzes data collection of faculty interventions and student participation related to academic success, progression, remediation, and retention services. Collect, prepares, and present detailed reports, for the Director of Student Success on progress.
Facilitates student success check-ins and sessions in collaboration with the Director of Student Academic Success. Proactive outreach and communication, responding to students questions, concerns, and needs. Motivate the student to practice self-regulation and take ownership of their academic success.
May develop and host academic workshops, supplemental instruction, academic coaching, and group study sessions.
Protect the confidentiality of information with areas of position responsibilities by preventing unauthorized release, both verbally and/or in writing.
Performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and two years of relevant work experience in an academic setting.
  • Unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Florida
  • Ability to travel to other USF campuses and/or other locations

PREFERRED:

  • Master’s degree in Nursing
  • Certified nurse educator (CNE) certification
  • Experience using products from Ascend Learning – Assessment Technology Institute (ATI).
  • Teaching experience with undergraduate nursing program
  • Knowledge of curriculum development and accreditation
  • Understanding of NCLEX-RN NextGen and NCLEX-RN Blueprint
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
